Weber Pathways’ STEP-IT-UP Contest

The Step-It-Up Contest kicks off at the National Trails Day each year. Everyone is eligible to enter anytime during the Summer.

It’s easy -- and you will receive a free pedometer to track your steps throughout the summer. Take the most steps and you will win a day pack of cool stuff for the outdoors. Just print this log sheet to use to record your steps on a daily or weekly basis.

If you don’t know where to walk in Weber County, you can also get two different hiking guides:
The contest ends and prizes are awarded for those with the most steps in each category at the “Mountain 2 Metro” Celebration in September
Categories are to be announced at National Trails Day.

Take a look at last year’s Step-It-Up Contest...

The 2008 Step-It-Up Contest represented a partnership between the Weber/Morgan Health Dept., the Junior League of Ogden, RAMP and Weber Pathways. RAMP funding allowed Weber Pathways to distribute 1000 pedometers around the county. The contest kicked off at the National Trails Day celebration on June 7 where the pedometers were given out. The pedometers were also distributed at the Children’s Health Connection, through Weber/Morgan Health Dept and Midtown Health Clinic. Participants were also given log sheets to track their progress.

The winner in the Women’s category was 59 year old Barbara Phipps who clocked 1,934,049 steps. The Men’s winner was Greg Spell, 38, with 881,796 steps. And the youth with the most steps was Karina Ceja with 1,248,450 steps. We also honored a family team of Deborah Cannon and her two boys, Cade, 3, and David, 8 mos. -- they walked 5,242,650 together!

Many other wonderful “steppers” in our community participated in the contest, too. Midtown Health Clinic had 17 participants that did regular walks together. And the County Health Department made it part of their employee wellness project.

Congratulations to everyone who Stepped-It-Up!
